Napoli is closing in on a deal for Brazilian winger David Neres as the club aims to finalize the transfer with Benfica by the weekend. The player, currently out of favor at his club, could be available to coach Antonio Conte by early next week. Among the various players on Conte’s wishlist, this negotiation is reportedly the closest to a conclusion.

The total deal is expected to be around €28 million, with Neres set to earn approximately €3 million annually, which is nearly one million more than his current salary in Portugal.

Born in São Paulo on March 3, 1997, Neres began his career at São Paulo FC, making his first-team debut on October 18, 2016, in a match against Fluminense. He moved to Europe in 2017, first joining Ajax, where he enjoyed notable success, including winning two Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cups, and one Super Cup. Neres later transferred to Shakhtar Donetsk, but he did not make any appearances for the club due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In June 2022, he signed with Benfica, where he helped the team secure the league title and the Super Cup, scoring 11 goals in 54 appearances. Neres has also represented Brazil at the international level, earning 8 caps for the national team.
