McKennie in Talks with Juve for Contract Renewal and Possible Reintegration

0

Weston McKennie is at a major turning point in his career at Juventus. The Texas midfielder has had discussions with coach Thiago Motta and has shown willingness to reconsider his position at the club. This development opens up the possibility of a remarkable reintegration into the squad, with decent odds of him staying with Juventus and possibly even renewing his contract.

This news significantly changes the narrative around McKennie, who had previously strained relations with the club. Tensions between the American and Juventus began last spring when his representatives asked for €4 million to renew his contract, which currently earns him €2.5 million and runs until 2025. Matters worsened during negotiations with Aston Villa, where McKennie reportedly requested a staggering €5 million to switch teams.

Up until now, McKennie had been training separately from the first team, working out at different times from his teammates. It seemed like there was no chance for reconciliation with the club. However, by expressing his openness to discuss a contract extension on the club’s terms, he has put himself back in a position similar to last summer. At that time, he seemed sidelined too, but a lack of personnel options led coach Massimiliano Allegri to propose a versatile role for him. McKennie accepted and went on to have one of the best seasons of his career.

His recent meeting with Thiago Motta may have paved the way for a new opportunity at Juventus. A return to the first team would be quite surprising, but it is no longer off the table. McKennie could potentially make his comeback as early as the match against Como on the bench.
