Milan Aims for Second Star with New Midfield Signings Fofana and Koné

Alberto Zaccheroni, who won a Serie A title with AC Milan in 1999, famously stated, “The midfield is the most important department of a team.” In line with this philosophy, the Rossoneri are looking to strengthen their midfield further as they aim for a second star on their jersey. Last week, they made a significant addition with the signing of Youssouf Fofana, who is expected to make an immediate impact. The former Monaco star has already started training with the team at Milanello, and fans could see him in action as early as their upcoming match against Parma.

However, before the transfer window closes, Milan may seek at least one more addition to their midfield. A key target is Manu Koné, but competition from AS Roma is fierce, and Milan must first offload some players, likely including Adli. Another interesting name linked to the club is Silvano Vos, a talented midfielder born in 2005 who could fit into the under-22 list for Serie A without taking up a foreign player slot. Vos, who trained with Ajax, originally played as a right-back but has moved into midfield to fully utilize his technical and physical abilities. Scouts have praised him as a “complete player,” and he first caught attention back in 2016 at just 11 years old during a juggling contest held before an Ajax-Twente match, where he wowed the crowd with 3,178 consecutive touches.

Despite a fruitful youth career at Ajax, Vos is reportedly seeking a new challenge after feeling underutilized last season. Ajax currently values him at ten million euros, a figure Milan considers excessive but is willing to negotiate. Meanwhile, French club Reims has also shown interest in the young talent. Koné, who would be a more immediate solution for Milan’s midfield, is reportedly valued at about 20 million euros by Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Rossoneri need to offload some players before making a move for him. Recently, Al-Qadsiah from Saudi Arabia expressed interest in Ismael Bennacer with an initial offer below 20 million euros, which Milan finds too low.

Fofana’s transfer to Milan had its own drama, with delays in finalizing the paperwork causing the announcement to be postponed. Nevertheless, he is now part of the squad, eager to contribute after weighing other offers and ultimately choosing Milan as his destination. Having trained alone upon returning from the European Championship, he quickly joined the rest of the team and is ready to help his new side.

As Milan prepares to face Parma, they will have significant changes in their lineup, including Tijjani Reijnders likely reclaiming a starting spot in midfield. The final formation will depend on how well the team trains leading up to the game. The Rossoneri are aiming for their first official victory of the 2024-25 season, and with Fofana’s arrival, the excitement is building among fans.
