AC Milan defender Pierre Kalulu is on the brink of a transfer to Juventus as negotiations between the two clubs are nearing completion. The French player has signaled his willingness to move to the Bianconeri, and Milan has accepted a hybrid loan deal. This arrangement allows Juve to take Kalulu on a loan that includes an option to buy without an obligation.
Juventus plans to pay an immediate fee of €3.5 million, almost double the initial offer of €2 million. The clubs are now working on finalizing the buy option, with Juve’s sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, aiming to keep the overall transfer fee below €20 million by including a resale percentage. The expected total cost of the deal is around €18 million, plus a 10% stake for Milan if Juve sells Kalulu after his acquisition.
Kalulu is expected to arrive in Turin within the next 36-48 hours, pending the completion of some administrative steps for the transfer. Although his medical examination has not yet been scheduled, the defender is poised to be available for Juventus’ Serie A opener at home against Como on Monday.
Giuntoli has secured the approval of coach Thiago Motta for Kalulu’s versatility, as he can play various defensive roles. While primarily a right-footed player, he can function as a left center-back, a ball-playing defender in a three-man backline, or even push forward as a full-back, a position he excelled in during his youth career at Lyon.
However, there are some concerns regarding Kalulu’s fitness, as he missed several matches last season due to injuries. This uncertainty was a key factor in Milan’s willingness to allow the defender to leave on a loan with a buy option rather than an obligation.
