Former German national team coach Hansi Flick (59) is set to take over as the new manager of FC Barcelona, according to reports. Flick, who previously coached the German national team from August 2021 to September 2023, is expected to sign a contract with Barcelona until 2026. He is likely to be officially unveiled as the new Barcelona boss on Monday, replacing Xavi (44).
Barcelona is also reportedly interested in signing young German goalkeeper Mio Backhaus (20) from Werder Bremen. The Catalan club’s scouts have been monitoring the 1.94-meter tall goalkeeper, who impressed during his loan spell at Dutch club FC Volendam. Despite Volendam’s relegation from the Eredivisie, Backhaus was named the goalkeeper of the season for his strong performances, including 32 league games with three clean sheets.
While Barcelona and other clubs are eyeing Backhaus, he will be returning to Werder Bremen for now. With Werder extending the contract of their first-choice goalkeeper Michael Zetterer (28) until 2027, Jiri Pavlenka (32) will be leaving as his contract will not be renewed. Backhaus, returning from loan, is expected to challenge Zetterer for the starting spot after an impressive season in the Eredivisie. Eduardo Dos Santos Haesler (25), known as Dudu, will also be departing as the third-choice goalkeeper for Werder Bremen.
