Thomas Broich (43) has been officially appointed as the new head of youth development at Borussia Dortmund starting from July 1, 2024. He will be taking over from Lars Ricken (47), who was recently promoted to the position of Sporting Director. Broich has signed a contract with the club until 2027, succeeding Ricken, who is now the Managing Director of Sport at Dortmund.

Having previously worked with Hertha BSC, Broich brings a wealth of experience in player development, having implemented a unified tactical system across all youth teams, from the U9 to U19 levels. His expertise in nurturing young talent and his background as a professional footballer in the Bundesliga and abroad make him a valuable addition to Dortmund’s youth setup. Broich’s appointment aligns with Dortmund’s commitment to evolving their youth development philosophy and playing style.

In a statement, Broich expressed his excitement to work alongside Ricken in shaping the future of Dortmund’s youth academy. Ricken praised Broich for his passion for talent development and his extensive knowledge of youth player development, gained through his time with clubs like Eintracht Frankfurt and Hertha BSC. With his experience both on and off the field, Broich is set to play a key role in shaping the next generation of talent at Borussia Dortmund.
