As the new Serie A season kicks off, many coaches and clubs are voicing their frustrations regarding the overlapping timing of the summer transfer market and the start of the league. The common sentiment is that it complicates preparations and team dynamics. However, Luigi De Siervo, the CEO of Serie A, has offered a cautious glimmer of hope by suggesting that there could be potential for separating the transfer window from the league’s kickoff in the future.
De Siervo explained that while discussions have been ongoing with various European leagues, they faced challenges, particularly with La Liga, which firmly maintains its structure. “It is not a utopia to start after the transfer market. We’ve tried to communicate with European leagues, but La Liga was categorical in their stance. Unfortunately, we had to settle with the market closing on August 30,” he stated. He also mentioned that talks with the Saudi league aimed at a similar arrangement to start their competitions post-transfer window have begun.
On the issue of a congested football calendar, De Siervo emphasized that Serie A, like other national leagues, has not increased the number of official matches. He urged FIFA and UEFA to take responsibility for managing the schedule, describing the current situation as complex and tense. Formal actions are in place to assess whether the lack of coordination in the calendar is acceptable.
In an effort to enhance fan engagement, De Siervo announced an increased collaboration between Radio Serie A and RDS. Both outlets are expanding their reach, now making their content available through the DAZN app, aiming to provide a complete experience alongside live matches from Serie A. He expressed pride in the synergy built over the past year, highlighting its success in connecting with fans.
Moreover, De Siervo noted that a special gift to mark Radio Serie A’s anniversary includes the rights to the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa. Following a successful initial round, the partnership will extend through to the final in Rome, scheduled for May 14, 2025.
He also welcomed Enilive as a new partner, noting how their involvement aligns with Serie A’s goals. With this collaboration, players wearing anti-racism jerseys during matches will get to keep them, promoting a strong message against discrimination while encouraging unity among young players who can wear the jerseys in their own games.
