McKennie to Renew with Juventus: New Deal Until 2026 at Current Pay

Weston McKennie and Juventus are moving towards a renewed partnership. The Texan midfielder is set to sign a one-year contract extension under the same financial terms, extending his stay with the club until 2026. His current salary, which stands at €2.5 million plus bonuses, will remain unchanged. McKennie’s willingness to extend his contract has paved the way for his immediate reintegration into the squad, with coach Thiago Motta welcoming him as a valuable asset to the team’s project, just as he had communicated to management during discussions about the squad.

Last spring, negotiations between Juventus and McKennie’s representatives hit a snag over his salary demands, which reached up to €4 million. Without an extension agreement, the club risked losing him for free, prompting the decision to place him on the transfer market right away. However, McKennie resisted all ongoing negotiations, making unreasonable salary requests to clubs such as Aston Villa, which caused delays in other transfer dealings, like that of Douglas Luiz, and to Fiorentina, along with several other interested teams.

Since returning to training on July 25, McKennie was initially sidelined, but his newfound openness to a contract renewal has eased tensions between him and the club. With McKennie back in the fold, the future of midfielder Fabio Miretti now looks uncertain, as he is likely to head out on loan to Genoa.
