With Jean-Clair Todibo set to join West Ham following passing medicals in the coming hours, Juventus is now in search of an alternative solution for their defense. The Serie A club is facing two main considerations: a technical one, as the player brought in must guarantee a starting position for Thiago Motta, and a financial one, given that Juve currently has around €5 million available and may only commit to a permanent signing in the future, especially after the agreement with Nice for Todibo was based on his playing time.
Todibo was originally a backup plan for Juventus, who had also targeted Calafiori. However, discussions with Bologna did not yield results as the club remained firm in their stance. Early indications suggest that a rekindling of interest in Jakub Kiwior is unlikely, as this option had been previously explored and abandoned, partly due to Kiwior already having experience working under Motta.
As Juventus looks to adjust its strategy, one potential pathway might stem from ongoing talks with Ajax regarding a loan for Daniele Rugani. This move comes as the Dutch side is preparing to sell one of its defenders, with Luka Sutalo also mentioned as a target for Bologna. While Sutalo, a 24-year-old Croatian, may not yet be at the top level, he shows promising potential and could fit Motta’s requirements well. Additionally, the financial aspect of this operation appears manageable: Ajax is reportedly asking for around €15 million, and Sutalo is seeking a wage of €2 million.
Meanwhile, Raiola has been pushing for Rugani’s transfer, with the agreement likely leaning towards a loan deal that would see Ajax cover the player’s yearly salary. Upcoming meetings between the two clubs could not only focus on Rugani but may also broaden discussions regarding Sutalo, providing Juventus with potential reinforcements needed in their defensive lineup.
