Juventus January signings under scrutiny in Serie A

0

Amidst speculations and different opinions, it appears that the breaking point came down to the choices of desired January reinforcements. Allegri wanted Fiorentina’s Bonaventura or a seasoned midfielder familiar with Serie A. On the contrary, Giuntoli brought in a recovering defender, Djalò, and a promising but inexperienced 21-year-old Argentine midfielder, Carlo Alcaraz, to Juventus. The new signings in January failed to make an impact during their first six months with the team, possibly contributing to disappointing results.

Debate is ongoing as to the reasons behind this situation. Some believe Allegri did not focus on developing the new players due to a rift with Giuntoli, while others point to poor decision-making as the cause for not extending their stay in Juventus. Djalò has remained a mystery, with 14 substitute appearances but no minutes on the field, while Alcaraz has featured in 10 matches (8 in Serie A, 2 in the Coppa Italia), with minimal playing time. The future of these players in the transfer market remains uncertain.

For Alcaraz, a loan renewal seems probable, while Djalò might be sent on loan to gain experience elsewhere in Serie A. However, there is a possibility for his stay, especially considering his year-long absence due to a cruciate ligament injury. Alcaraz, acquired from Southampton on loan for a fee, has a buyout option at €49.5 million, a figure Juventus may not entertain, possibly opting for an extension of the loan agreement. The decision regarding their future at Juventus is yet to be determined.
