Simone Inzaghi is speaking as the reigning Italian champion ahead of Inter Milan’s first match of the new season, where they will face Genoa at Marassi. The match, taking place at 18:30, marks the beginning of Inter’s title defense. Inzaghi acknowledged the responsibility that comes with being champions, stating, “We have the responsibility to defend our title.”
When asked about Inter’s status as favorites, Inzaghi shared his thoughts on the competitive landscape of the league: “We have always been among the favorites; I don’t like making predictions. Every team aims to win at the start of the season.” He emphasized that many clubs have invested heavily, but Inter has been successful in maintaining the core of last season’s squad while adding valuable players. However, Inzaghi highlighted a concern regarding injuries, particularly mentioning Buchanan, adding, “We have discussed this with the management, and they understand that we need an important player in that role.”
Reflecting on the previous season, Inzaghi expressed immense pride but stressed the need to move forward: “Last season was a great satisfaction, but we have to leave it behind. We know we have a big responsibility and we are ready.” He noted that defending the title can often present challenges, as seen in past seasons.
Inzaghi mentioned that the team’s preparation for this season was not entirely straightforward. Nevertheless, he has seen positive signs: “The players are training with smiles on their faces, which means they are working better, not less. They are motivated and responsible, ready to start where we left off.” As the new season approaches, the entire squad appears focused and eager to defend their title.
