“Inter’s Bastoni Calls for Defensive Reinforcements as Transfer Window Nears”

Alessandro Bastoni has openly called for more support in the transfer market, a rarity among players. Following Inter’s recent match against Genoa, which exposed some defensive lapses, the young defender emphasized the need for a new addition to strengthen the squad. When asked if Tomas Palacios from Independiente Rivadavia is on Inter’s radar, Inter’s director Beppe Marotta chose to remain coy. He explained, “I won’t mention names, as bringing up options that don’t materialize can lead to embarrassment. We have identified the profile we want and we’re satisfied with that.”

Palacios is actually a player with a shared stake between Independiente Rivadavia and Talleres, with the latter holding half of his rights due to an existing clause. This complicates any potential deal, as Inter will need to negotiate with both clubs. Interestingly, Palacios did not play in the recent match between Independiente and Talleres, likely to avoid any conflicts of interest as he prepares for a move away from Argentina. Alongside Inter, several German clubs are also keeping a close eye on the young defender.

Marotta has a budget cap of €6 million for this transfer, and plans to submit an offer to both Argentine clubs at the start of next week. As the transfer window closes in less than two weeks, time is of the essence, but there’s still some time left for negotiations. Previously, Inter had considered Barcelona’s Faye, but the €15 million asking price from the Catalan giants is too steep for the Italian side at this moment.

Coach Simone Inzaghi has shown preference for more experienced defenders like Ricardo Rodriguez or Mario Hermoso, both of whom had been on Inter’s radar in the past. Rodriguez has recently joined Real Betis, while Hermoso remains a free agent, awaiting a club. The situation leaves Inter in a cautious but proactive position as they look to bolster their defense before the window closes.
