Emerson Royal Close to Joining Milan as Transfer Talks Reach Final Stage

The London marathon is nearing its end as we approach the 40-kilometer mark, and Emerson Royal is closing in on a move to AC Milan. The Brazilian defender, currently with Tottenham, has been vocal from afar, advocating for a transfer to Italy. As discussions heat up, the Serie A side is expected to finalize the deal soon, focusing on the last million or two to satisfy Tottenham’s asking price, which initially ranged between €25-30 million. Milan’s initial offer was slightly above €10 million, but negotiations have progressed, and it seems the parties are close to an agreement.

The cost of the operation is estimated to be around €15 million. AC Milan and Tottenham have been in communication for some time now, and with the Serie A season fast approaching, Milan is keen to wrap up this transfer without unnecessary delays. They have a history of taking their time in negotiations but are scheduled for a meeting today, making it likely that a resolution will be reached soon.

Milan’s interest in Emerson Royal dates back to the last spring, during Stefano Pioli’s tenure as coach. Although there were moments when other priorities emerged, Emerson has become a top target once again. His experience in the Premier League and international appearances with Brazil make him an appealing option for Milan. He is expected to compete for a starting position, although current captain Davide Calabria is determined to retain his place despite the competition.

At this critical stage of the negotiation, Milan’s decision-makers, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada, are in Italy while Tottenham is engaged in a pre-season tour in Asia. Meanwhile, Emerson’s profile fits the Milan mold: a contract expiring in 2026, Premier League experience, and a chance for rejuvenation at a price around €15-20 million.

In addition, Milan has shown interest in Youssouf Fofana, a midfielder currently with Monaco, who may also be on their radar. However, Monaco’s resistance to selling is evident, as their sporting director clearly stated existing conditions must be respected, hinting there’s a possibility Fofana could remain with them. Fofana has been in talks with Milan and is eager to join the Serie A club.

Meanwhile, following goalkeeper Marco Sportiello’s recent injury, Milan is actively searching for a second goalkeeper, with Simone Scuffet emerging as a strong candidate. Discussions with Cagliari regarding a loan deal with an option to buy at €3 million are ongoing.

Lastly, Milan has not ruled out a move for Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham as they aim to bolster their attack. Negotiations with Roma have yet to yield a solution regarding a potential swap involving Luka Jovic, but Abraham has expressed a willingness to join Milan. Discussions between the two clubs are expected to resume soon, with a potential loan deal on the horizon if they can reach an agreement, which could lead to Jovic’s departure.
