Luca Percassi, the CEO of Atalanta, recently shared insights into the club’s transfer strategies during an interview with Sky. He confirmed that the primary goal since the beginning of the season has been to retain all of their star players, particularly amidst strong interest from clubs like PSG and Juventus for Ademola Lookman and Teun Koopmeiners.
Percassi expressed confidence in the club’s approach, stating, “We are very calm. We have always respected our obligations.” He explained that, after last season’s remarkable achievements, the club set out to keep the key players who played pivotal roles in their success. “For the first time in our history, we wanted to ensure that all the major contributors from last year remained with us,” he elaborated.
While acknowledging the challenges of the transfer market, Percassi noted that Atalanta was prepared for potential turbulence. “We didn’t expect certain outcomes, but we are very relaxed because our ownership is ready to invest. If opportunities arise, we will be ready to seize them,” he said.
The CEO also lamented injuries plaguing the squad, particularly the recent setback involving Gianluca Scamacca, calling it a significant disappointment. He reassured fans that all players are committed to Atalanta and that any decisions regarding transfers will be made with the club’s best interests in mind.
Furthermore, Percassi criticized the market’s open period coinciding with official matches, calling it a problem that needs regulation. “We had attempted to address it, but it wasn’t possible due to interference from the Arab league,” he revealed, implying the need for clearer rules to avoid such issues in the future.
