Everything is changing. The deal between Jean-Clair Todibo and Juventus appears to be in serious trouble, potentially beyond repair. The introduction of West Ham into the race has been a decisive factor, as the Premier League club had previously tracked the defender but failed to finalize the transfer. Juventus has had the Frenchman in their sights for over a month, and during their latest meeting with the player’s representatives on Wednesday, significant progress had been made. They were close to agreeing on a costly loan deal valued at €5 million, along with conditions for a mandatory buyout at €30 million based on appearances rather than on qualification for next season’s Champions League. The only outstanding issue was the future resale agreement, with the French club requesting 25%.
However, yet another delay in finalizing the deal, which was expected to be completed early next week, has frustrated Todibo. Meanwhile, West Ham has made a significant push to secure his signature, reportedly offering €40 million for the player’s transfer while also enhancing his potential earnings with performance-related bonuses. This swift and assertive approach from the English club has allowed them to surpass Juventus in the race for Todibo.
It is now likely that Todibo could undergo medical examinations as early as the next few hours if the deal with West Ham is confirmed. As for Juventus, sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli had promised a defender to coach Thiago Motta, but time is running out. Ajax has been pressing for Daniele Rugani, but it remains to be seen whether Juve can afford to delay any further without a viable alternative in place. Ironically, Todibo was already considered the backup option, following their initial pursuit of Calafiori.
