Timothy Weah is confident that the 2024-2025 season will showcase a transformed Juventus and a new version of himself. The American winger joined Juventus from Lille last summer when Massimiliano Allegri was still at the helm. After spending a year adapting to his role as a full-back or wide midfielder, Weah is now working more as a forward under new coach Thiago Motta, a shift that he finds quite satisfying—returning to his roots as an attacking player.
As Juventus wrapped up their pre-season with a loss to Atletico Madrid, Weah reflected on the team’s current state. “We did some positive things in the first half, but fatigue set in, making everything more challenging. We are a strong team; we just need to keep working hard in training. Our next match against Como in the league is much more important,” he stated.
When asked if the recent results against European opponents worry him, Weah quickly dismissed the idea. “No, we’re not worried about the result. Performance is what matters most. None of us like to lose games like this, but we need to focus on our work. Again, the next match will be far more significant, and we will be ready.”
Juventus is active in the transfer market, particularly seeking wingers. But Weah is unfazed by the competition. “No, I’m only focused on the pitch and my teammates; I’m not interested in market discussions. We have a fantastic staff, and that makes a difference,” he remarked.
He noted that his father, George Weah, hasn’t given him any specific advice regarding the transfer market distractions. “He’s just like any father; he tells me to focus on my game.”
When comparing the current Juventus to last season’s team, Weah mentioned, “Now we have a team that attacks more, and I really like that. Thiago Motta did a great job at Bologna; he built a wonderful team. We are learning his style of play, and I think we performed better against Atletico compared to previous matches.”
With a new direction and role as an attacking winger, Weah is optimistic about his future. “I think so, for sure. Everything has changed, starting with the mindset. We have an amazing coach, and I love playing in this position. I want to help the team. With Como coming up, it will be a new Juventus.”
