Torino Signs Marcus Holmgren Pedersen on Loan After Bellanova Departure

Torino has quickly responded to the unexpected departure of Raoul Bellanova by securing the services of Marcus Holmgren Pedersen. The Norwegian right-back spent last season on loan at Sassuolo from Feyenoord and is excited about his new opportunity in Italy. The transfer negotiations between the two clubs were finalized late last night, with Torino agreeing to a deal that involves a loan with an obligation to buy for a fee of €4 million, which could rise to €4.5 million with bonuses.

The 22-year-old Pedersen has accepted a contract that runs until June 2027, with an option to extend for an additional season. This signing marks Torino’s fourth acquisition during the summer transfer window, adding to their previous signings including Adams, Coco, and Borna Sosa, alongside backup goalkeepers Paleari and Donnarumma. Torino’s president, Urbano Cairo, hinted that the transfer dealings are not over yet, suggesting that more signings could be on the horizon.

Paolo Vanoli will now have a competitive squad at his disposal. The connections between Pedersen and Bellanova date back to last summer when Torino’s technical director, Davide Vagnati, had been monitoring the Norwegian’s progress in the Eredivisie. When Torino had the chance to sign Bellanova, Sassuolo was able to secure Pedersen in return.

During his time at Sassuolo, Pedersen made 28 appearances, contributing to the team’s challenges that ultimately led to their relegation. However, he is eager to revive his career in Serie A with Torino. Known for his strong physical presence and right foot, he is expected to thrive in Vanoli’s five-man midfield setup, supported by a diverse range of players on the flanks.

On the left side, Torino features Sosa, Lazaro, and Vojvoda, the latter often utilized in a defensive role. On the right, alongside Pedersen, there is also Lazaro and potential contributions from young talents Bayeye and Ali Dembelè. This makes for a well-rounded squad, full of energy and ready to take on the challenges ahead.

Pedersen has been considered a prodigy in Norwegian football, making his mark after joining Molde following his initial success at Tromso. His impressive performances caught the eye of Feyenoord, where he accumulated 80 appearances and contributed a goal and seven assists during his two years in Rotterdam. Now, he looks forward to making his mark in Serie A with Torino, bringing his talents to a team that has big ambitions for the season.
