It was a situation that could be perceived in various ways: before the match, Torino would have been satisfied with a 2-2 draw at Milan. However, after how the game unfolded, the Granata left San Siro filled with regret and disappointment, as they failed to secure a victory that seemed within reach, conceding two late goals. The scoring sequence was a rollercoaster: an own goal from Thiaw, followed by a goal from Zapata, then Morata, who scored on his debut, and finally, a dramatic equalizer from Okafor in the 95th minute.
The ending was particularly harsh for Torino, who played well enough to deserve three points, controlling the game effectively until their lapses in the final quarter. They were better organized, more defensively aware, and made clearer choices. The Torino team appeared significantly more advanced than the Rossoneri, who seemed like a shadow of the squad that had impressively bested Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Barcelona over the summer.
AC Milan, on the other hand, looked sluggish and disorganized, lacking creativity and plagued by the same defensive issues that have haunted them in previous matches. It didn’t help that Leao squandered two great goal-scoring opportunities. Yet, games last a minimum of 90 minutes, and in this case, there were eight minutes of stoppage time. It was inexcusable for Vanoli’s men to switch off at such a critical moment.
Milan deserves credit for believing until the end, yet little else from this performance is worth remembering for the home fans.
