Thuram Shines with Double but Inter Settles for Draw against Genoa

In a thrilling encounter at Marassi, Inter Milan faced Genoa, ending the match in a dramatic 2-2 draw. The game was packed with emotions, as Inter’s Marcus Thuram scored twice, seemingly putting his team on course for victory, only for Genoa’s Junior Messias to level the score in injury time with a penalty.

The hosts started cautiously, allowing Inter to dominate possession in the opening stages. Just seven minutes in, Inter showcased their attacking prowess. Nicolò Barella sparked a rapid counter-attack, feeding Thuram, whose powerful shot was expertly parried by Genoa’s goalkeeper, Gollini.

As the first half progressed, Genoa began to find their footing. Inter’s goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, struggled with his decision-making and was nearly punished when he failed to clear a ball, allowing Vitinha the opportunity to score—only for the young forward to misjudge his dribble.

However, Genoa did find the net shortly after. A free-kick from deep saw a header from Bani, which Sommer mistimed. The rebound came off the crossbar and was tapped in by Vogliacco, sending the home crowd into ecstasy while sending Inter reeling.

But Inter reacted swiftly. Barella put in a fantastic cross that Thuram converted with a stunning header to equalize at 1-1. Soon after, Inter looked to take the lead when a challenge in the box led to a VAR review. Initially awarded a penalty for a foul on Thuram, the decision was overturned, leaving Inzaghi fuming on the sidelines.

The second half began with Inter pushing forward intensely, but they faced a resilient Genoa defense. Thuram had another opportunity but again met a strong save from Gollini. The match remained tense, with a flurry of substitutions from both teams as they sought to capitalize on any potential mistakes.

In a crucial moment, Thuram finally found the net again after a brilliant assist from Frattesi, letting his shot skim past Gollini. This time the goal stood after a VAR check, putting Inter ahead 2-1. However, Genoa was not done yet.

In the dying moments of the match, a handball by Bisseck was spotted by the referee following a VAR review, gifting Genoa a penalty. Messias stepped up and, despite Sommer saving his initial attempt, the rebound fell back to him, and he made no mistake in equalizing.

With the game concluding at 2-2, the atmosphere was electric, as Gilardino celebrated with his players while Inzaghi was left reflecting on missed opportunities. Inter will undoubtedly look to improve and recapture their form in the upcoming matches as they pursue success in Serie A.
