Suning Group Moves to Acquire Portimonense and Portimao Racing Complex

The Suning Group, known for their previous ownership of Inter Milan, is making a return to the football scene, with news emerging from Portugal about a potential deal worth approximately €80 million. According to local media, the Chinese company is preparing to acquire the Portimonense football club and the associated sports complex at the Autodromo de Portimão. This venue not only hosts Superbike and MotoGP events but has also recently welcomed Formula 1 races.

Reports from ZeroZero indicate that the Zhang family, through Suning Holdings Group, is poised to finalize the acquisition of Portimonense, with expectations set for a completion by 2025. Edgar Vilaça, currently serving as the financial director of Portimonense and a key player in these negotiations, will take over the management of the club during this transition period.

After spending seven seasons in the top tier of Portuguese football, Portimonense faced relegation to the second division at the end of last season. This acquisition marks a significant move for Suning as they look to re-establish their presence in the football world.
