Milan’s Marco Sportiello Out for Months After Hand Injury, Squad in Need

Marco Sportiello’s injury has been officially confirmed, and the Milan goalkeeper is set to be sidelined for two to three months. This unfortunate setback occurred during the team’s pre-season tour in the United States, affecting both his personal plans and the team’s preparation for the new season. Sportiello underwent surgery in a clinic in the US after suffering a deep cut on his left hand that involved one of the tendons.

Described as a “domestic incident,” the injury happened within the confines of the Rossoneri’s hotel. With Sportiello now out of action, AC Milan needs to search the transfer market for a reliable backup to their main goalkeeper, Mike Maignan.

Several names have been floated as potential replacements, including Loris Karius and Rui Patricio. However, the most likely candidate at this stage is Simone Scuffet of Cagliari, with a transfer fee of around €2 million being discussed. As the club navigates these challenges, fans will be hoping for a swift recovery for Sportiello, but also effective reinforcement in goal.
