Milan Faces Injury Woes in US Tour: Key Players Out for Extended Periods

Milan’s pre-season tour in the USA has not started well in terms of injuries. Coach Paulo Fonseca has faced a significant setback with the loss of Alessandro Florenzi, who is expected to miss most of the season after suffering a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee during the match against Manchester City. Adding to the woes, Marco Sportiello, the backup for first-choice goalkeeper Mike Maignan, sustained a serious cut to his left hand while in a hotel in New York. This injury is serious enough to leave him sidelined for over two months, with further examinations underway to assess the prognosis and determine if surgery is necessary.

With Sportiello’s absence, Milan is exploring options to bring in a replacement. One potential target is Francesco Scuffet from Cagliari, who has a price tag of around €3 million. This move could become more likely if Simone Silvestri, who is not currently on Milan’s radar, ends up moving to Cagliari to join coach Davide Nicola. For now, in the friendly match at Yankee Stadium, Fonseca had to rely on 19-year-old goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani, who is set to be the third-choice keeper for the upcoming season. As the situation develops, Milan fans will be hoping for some positive updates soon.
