Maurizio Sarri Resigns as Lazio Coach Amid Personal Struggles and Change

Maurizio Sarri’s resignation as the coach of Lazio has sent shockwaves through the club. In March, following a home defeat to Udinese, Sarri made the dramatic decision to leave the team for good. Recently, Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel revealed that he tried to convince Sarri to stay, but the coach insisted that his decision was final.

In a recent interview with a Roman radio station, Lazio’s sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, spoke about the emotional moments surrounding Sarri’s departure. “You need to understand things from the inside,” he explained. “When Sarri resigned, I, being a passionate person, cried. I saw a man who was devastated, dealing with personal issues. He had just lost his uncle, whom he considered a father, and soon after, his mother, who had also been unwell, passed away. Around that time, his wife was in intensive care while he continued to work. The Sarri we know had a breakdown and communicated his decision to me.”

This summer, Lazio has seen several club legends depart, with Felipe Anderson, Luis Alberto, and Ciro Immobile all leaving Rome. Immobile’s exit, in particular, surprised Fabiani. “The way Immobile left wasn’t the best from a human perspective,” he joked. “I had a great relationship with him. Just two days before his departure, he called to say he was in shape and ready to score 20 goals. Hours later, he received a proposal from Turkey, evaluated it, and expressed his desire to leave. When a player wants to go, it’s not right to hold them back. Of course, I am disappointed, but this is the nature of the market.”

Before Immobile’s exit, Lazio had already signed Noslin from Verona, but they have yet to find a direct replacement for the former captain. However, a deal with Salernitana for Boulaye Dia could be on the horizon. “We have an agreement with Salernitana, and they have already signed the documents,” Fabiani explained. “Now, we just need to come to terms with the player’s lawyer and agent. We are working towards it. We want to sign him, and they have asked for a day to respond, so we are waiting for their answer.”
