Lazio Starts Strong Under Baroni with Victory Over Newly Promoted Venezia

The Baroni era has kicked off positively for Lazio, despite a shaky start that had the team’s fans on edge. Just three minutes into the match, Kofod Andersen scored for Venezia, who recently returned to Serie A after two seasons in Serie B. However, Lazio quickly equalized through Castellanos, followed by a penalty from Zaccagni in the first half, and an own goal from Altare later on, securing a 3-1 victory for the home side.

Venezia couldn’t have asked for a better start after their promotion, as they found themselves ahead early on. A throw-in led to a mix-up from Lazio’s Rovella, allowing Ellertsson to set up Kofod Andersen, who struck a perfect shot into the corner of Provedel’s goal.

Lazio responded just eight minutes later. Svoboda lost possession to Castellanos, who took full advantage and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Joronen to level the score. This goal allowed Lazio to settle into the game and control the play as they pushed further into Venezia’s half. Zaccagni almost put Lazio ahead in the 24th minute with a deflected shot that narrowly missed.

Venezia attempted to counter-attack around the half-hour mark, with Zampano forcing Provedel into a near-miss with a curling effort. Castellanos came close again with a header from a beautiful Noslin cross, but it went wide. The forward was in the spotlight again just before halftime when he was fouled in the box, earning a penalty which Zaccagni converted in the 44th minute. Marusic nearly made it three before the break, forcing a spectacular save from Joronen.

The second half saw more pressure from Lazio, with Castellanos hitting the crossbar with a deflected shot. Zaccagni then missed a great chance from the edge of the box, and soon after, Venezia could have equalized, but Haps squandered a golden opportunity, shooting wide from a central position.

Despite some intense moments, including another defensive clearance from Romagnoli, Lazio found a third goal in the 81st minute. Guendouzi set Lazzari up on the right, and his cross was deflected into the net by Altare, who was attempting to intercept Castellanos. This goal deflated Venezia’s hopes, and shortly after, Castellanos rattled the post with a fierce effort.

Lazio’s victory marks a strong beginning under Baroni, leaving fans hopeful for the season ahead despite the initial scare.
