Lazio Eyeing New Midfield Addition After Strong Win Against Venezia

Lazio is eyeing an additional signing to bolster their squad. With the arrival of Dia, marking their sixth acquisition under coach Marco Baroni, the forward line appears to be settled. However, the club recognizes the need to make further movements in the transfer market.

Their recent victory against Venezia showcased positive developments in both team performance and individual displays, particularly from Castellanos, who stepped up as a goalscorer in the absence of Immobile. Nevertheless, it became clear that there is a pressing need to enhance their playmaking capabilities.

The biancoceleste are now targeting Michael Folorunsho, a 26-year-old midfielder currently with Napoli. Folorunsho recently completed a successful season at Verona under Baroni, who had previously coached him at Reggina. Napoli has priced him at around €15 million, which has complicated negotiations. Lazio is also exploring the option of a loan deal with an obligation to buy, rather than a straight purchase.

Folorunsho is well familiar with Baroni’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, although the coach has begun experimenting with a 4-3-3 setup, as seen in the match against Venezia. As such, Lazio’s priority is to secure a high-quality player to strengthen their build-up play.

In addition to Folorunsho, Lazio has rekindled their interest in Carlos Alcaraz, a 21-year-old Argentine who recently returned to Southampton after a loan spell at Juventus. Alcaraz could provide flexibility, fitting into roles as both a central midfielder and an attacking midfielder. His name surfaced in discussions with Southampton’s management last week when Lazio spent two days training at the club’s facilities following a friendly match.

Furthermore, Lazio is also considering two players previously scouted in earlier transfer windows: Alexsander, a 20-year-old Brazilian from Fluminense, and Cristian Medina, a 22-year-old Argentine from Boca Juniors. The upcoming weeks will be critical as Lazio aims to finalize their squad for the remainder of the season.
