To address these issues, Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli is pushing to bring in Jean-Clair Todibo, a 24-year-old center-back from Nice, as a crucial reinforcement for the defense. This move comes in anticipation of the departures of Daniele Rugani and Tiago Djaló, both of whom have been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Thiago Motta.
The transition to a four-man defense, necessitated by tactical changes to a higher line and different build-up play, has contributed to initial struggles for the team. With the squad still needing a key addition, Todibo has been identified as the right fit. Negotiations have been ongoing, but there has been a stalemate due to differing views on the terms of the transfer. However, Juventus, backed by Todibo’s commitment to join their project, has reached out to Nice in hopes of resolving these issues amicably.
Positive signs are emerging from Turin as the club feels optimistic about the situation. The player’s firm intention to join Juventus—turning down interests from clubs like West Ham—has given them leverage. Meanwhile, Thiago Motta is keen on quickly finalizing a squad that closely resembles his vision for the season. Giuntoli has personally engaged in discussions with Nice, showing a willingness to revisit the conditions of the transfer to make it more appealing for the French club. This could involve adjusting the required appearances to trigger a mandatory buy option, making the process smoother and quicker.
Aside from the Todibo situation, Juventus is also looking to bolster their midfield and wing positions. One of the top targets remains Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta, although negotiations have been challenging, especially following an injury to Atalanta’s Gianluca Scamacca. Nevertheless, Giuntoli is determined to pursue Koopmeiners, aiming to negotiate a figure closer to the €60 million demanded by Atalanta, possibly proposing €50 million plus bonuses.
In the search for wingers, Brazilian Galeno of Porto and Argentine Nico Gonzalez from Fiorentina have emerged as key targets. Both wingers could potentially involve player exchanges, with Djaló possibly going to Porto in return for Galeno, who has expressed interest in joining Juventus. Fiorentina is also asking for €35 million for Gonzalez, and Giuntoli may look to sweeten the deal by offering Weston McKennie or Arthur in trade. Additionally, Conceição Junior from Porto remains on their radar, along with Domenico Berardi from Sassuolo, who could be considered for a last-minute loan deal, depending on his fitness.
