Samir Handanovic’s connection with Inter Milan remains strong as the legendary goalkeeper transitions into a new role. After hanging up his gloves in 2023, Handanovic briefly took on the role of a scout, observing numerous matches while focusing on young talent. He has frequently taken to the stands, keenly watching the youth players, and recently completed his coaching course at the prestigious Coverciano. Today, the announcement is official: he will be the new head coach of Inter’s Under-17 team.
Handanovic is considered a true icon at Inter. He first donned the club’s colors back in 2012 after transferring from Udinese. Over his eleven-year career with the Nerazzurri, he made 455 appearances and helped the team secure five major trophies: the Serie A title in 2021, two Coppa Italia titles, and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.
He holds several impressive records for the club, including the most Serie A appearances by an Inter goalkeeper (380), the most penalties saved in a single Serie A season (six in 2010-2011), and the all-time leader for penalties saved in Serie A history (26). Additionally, Handanovic has represented Slovenia 81 times on the international stage, featuring in the 2010 World Cup.
As he steps into his new position, fans and players alike are eager to see how Handanovic will nurture the next generation of talent at Inter Milan.
