Dybala Stays at Roma: Rumors and Offers But He’s Committed for Now

Amid a swirl of rumors, offers, and potential deals, Paulo Dybala remains the standout talent at AS Roma. While the transfer market often brings uncertainty, the current situation indicates that Dybala is likely to stay at the club, barring any major developments before the window closes. The anxiety felt by Roma fans is understandable, but the alarm may be unwarranted.

On August 1, Dybala received a lucrative offer from the Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah, which boasts notable players like Nacho, Ezequiel Fernandez, Nandez, and Aubameyang. The proposal included a two-year contract worth around €20 million per season. However, Dybala turned down the offer, preferring to remain in “real” football. He is happy in Rome and looks forward to an exciting season, especially with the arrival of his friend Matias Soulé from Juventus. Dybala understands that playing in Europe is crucial for his chances of returning to the Argentine national team, especially after missing the recent Copa America.

However, Dybala’s situation became more complicated after he was benched in a recent friendly against Everton. Following the match, Roma’s coach Daniele De Rossi commented on Dybala and suggested that any player wanting to leave is free to do so. This sparked concerns among the Roma faithful, as Dybala’s role as a guaranteed starter is now in jeopardy. He may have to start on the bench in the upcoming league opener against Cagliari, particularly if De Rossi opts for a 4-3-3 formation that favors Soulé.

Looking ahead, if no further offers come in, Dybala is likely to remain with Roma for the season. The club values him highly despite his significant salary, which includes €7 million plus a bonus for performance-related goals. Additionally, there’s a clause that could extend his contract to the 2025/26 season if he reaches 50% playtime over his three years with the club, where he has already played 71 matches out of 109.

While the financial commitment is considerable, it is justified by Dybala’s talent and contributions. However, if a Champions League club were to make an attractive offer, Dybala would consider it, and Roma might decide to save on his salary while potentially reinvesting in other areas of the squad.

Right now, the situation remains fluid as the transfer window nears its end. Yet, the most significant certainty is that Paulo Dybala is still a Roma player – for now, at least, which is precisely what the supporters are hoping for.
