David de Gea Close to Joining Fiorentina as New Goalkeeper for 2023 Season

David de Gea is virtually a Fiorentina player after significant progress was made in negotiations today involving club officials, agents, and intermediaries. Although he still needs to complete medical examinations and sign the contract for an official announcement, the move from the former Manchester United goalkeeper is almost finalized. De Gea, born in 1990, joins the Italian side as a free agent and will be taking over the goalkeeping duties under coach Raffaele Palladino.

Palladino had expressed a strong desire for a new goalkeeper who possesses skills that align with his tactical approach, particularly someone who is comfortable with the ball at their feet and adept at quick vertical plays. Reports suggest that De Gea could arrive in Florence as early as tomorrow. Meanwhile, Pietro Terracciano is expected to join Monza, a club that has shown interest in him recently.

De Gea will sign a one-year contract, earning approximately €2 million per season, with a possible option for a second year. His arrival brings a wealth of international experience to Fiorentina; he has played at elite clubs throughout his career and has been the starting goalkeeper for the Spanish national team. He began his journey in football within the youth ranks of Atlético Madrid before making his first-team debut and later moving to the Premier League, where he represented Manchester United for 12 years.

Now, De Gea is eager to explore Serie A, hoping to make a mark with Fiorentina. One concern might be that he has been without a club for over a year, as he was not signed last season. However, many believe that a few good performances will help him regain his rhythm and win over the hearts of the Florentine fans.
