The first round of the Coppa Italia continues to unfold, with significant matches taking place. Brescia secured a 3-1 victory against Venezia, while Palermo is currently facing Parma. Later tonight, Sampdoria will take on Como at 20:45, followed by Torino hosting Cosenza at 21:15.
This match was a disappointing start for Eusebio Di Francesco in charge of Venezia, who struggled against Brescia. Brescia’s team, managed by Maran, showcased their experience, mirroring their recent friendly win over Genoa and displaying a strong understanding of their gameplay just days before the start of their league campaign against Palermo at Rigamonti.
Venezia began the match with some promise, hitting the post through Gytkjaer. However, just a minute later, Brescia took the lead at the 13th minute, thanks to Borrelli, who capitalized on a cross from Bisoli, outjumping Idzes to score against former goalkeeper Joronen.
After the halftime break, Olzer took the spotlight, scoring a brace. It took just 18 seconds into the second half for Olzer to find the net, catching the defense off guard following another assist from captain Bisoli. He completed his double in the 82nd minute, skillfully getting past Svoboda before unleashing a powerful left-footed shot.
In the 85th minute, Idzes pulled one back for Venezia with a header from a corner, but it was not enough to change the outcome. Brescia advances to the next round, where they will meet Monza.
Meanwhile, Palermo delivered a stunning performance at the Tardini, eliminating Parma and setting up an exciting next round matchup against Napoli, coached by Antonio Conte. The Sicilians triumphed thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Gomis, who made crucial saves, including a penalty stop from Dennis Man and a close-range header from Circati towards the end of the match.
Parma’s performance was underwhelming; although they created a few chances in the first half, they faded significantly in the second. The pace and creativity, particularly from their key player Man, were lacking. The decisive goal came from Insigne just before halftime. After taking a corner, he seized on a defensive lapse, entered the area, and scored with a precise left-footed shot.
Adding to Parma’s woes was a muscle injury to Bonny, who suffered a calf problem. It seems unlikely he will be fit for their opening league match against Fiorentina, scheduled for August 17 at the Tardini.
