Bologna’s Italiano Optimistic with New Signings Ahead of Tough Napoli Match

Tommaso Pobega has officially joined Bologna, marking another addition for coach Vincenzo Italiano, who previously worked with him during his time at Milan and Torino. Following the departure of Nicoló Cambiaghi, who Italiano described as “an important player and a wonderful person,” he expressed confidence that Cambiaghi will return stronger in a few months.

As Bologna prepares to face Napoli, Italiano acknowledges the challenge ahead, noting Napoli’s frustration after their last defeat and the need for caution. He believes Pobega, along with other recent signings like Dominguez and Iling Junior, adds depth to the squad and embodies the qualities Bologna needs, particularly with his left foot. “He has matured since his time at Milan and Torino, and I’m happy to have him. He’s completely recovered from his muscle issue, and there’s space for him in the team,” Italiano stated.

Bologna is regaining its squad depth, which Italian hopes will bring consistency in performance. He pointed out that the next match against Napoli is crucial, emphasizing that the players need to maintain the same spirit and attitude they displayed in their first match against Udinese. Bologna created 22 shots on goal in that game but only managed to score once. Italiano expressed disappointment over the lack of conversion, highlighting the need for the team to be more precise and efficient in front of goal.

Regarding Karlsson, who missed several days of training, Italiano praised his one-on-one skills and goal vision but insisted he must build his self-confidence to seize opportunities on the pitch.

With speculation that Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis had shown interest in Italiano, he reflected positively on their past encounter. “He once came into the Spezia dressing room to congratulate us. I respect him as he understands football well,” Italiano said, indicating he would greet De Laurentiis warmly if they cross paths again.

Italiano also mentioned the necessity of strengthening Bologna’s defense, particularly with the addition of a central defender. He praised his current squad’s leadership, describing them as players who are passionate about the club’s colors and are committed. As Bologna continues to prepare, he remains optimistic about the quality and spirit within the team, stating they are well-equipped for the challenges ahead.
