Atalanta’s Transfer Window Heats Up with Cuadrado and Rui Patricio Signings

Atalanta’s final push in the summer transfer window is picking up pace, starting with a double signing that promises to invigorate the squad. Early Monday morning, Juan Cuadrado arrived at the La Madonnina clinic in Milan to undergo his medical exams, kicking off his new chapter with Atalanta after a season spent at Inter, where he celebrated his sixth Serie A title—having won five with Juventus.

Cuadrado has joined Atalanta on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Inter. The 35-year-old Colombian brings valuable experience to the Zingonia-based club, especially following the departures of long-serving players like Palomino and Hateboer. His presence is expected to fill the gap left by these exits. With 59 Champions League appearances under his belt, Cuadrado is well-accustomed to high-pressure matches, making him a key addition to Atalanta’s squad.

Last season, he made 12 appearances but faced challenges due to an Achilles tendon injury, which he has since resolved through surgery, allowing him to return to action towards the end of the season. Cuadrado won’t be the only new face at Atalanta; Rui Patricio, the former Roma goalkeeper, is also expected to arrive for a medical examination in the coming hours. The 36-year-old, who became a free agent after his contract expired on June 30, landed in Italy on Sunday evening.

The completion of Rui Patricio’s transfer depends on the finalization of the deal involving Musso and Atlético Madrid, after which he will be set to take the role of backup goalkeeper behind Carnesecchi. Like Cuadrado, Patricio has an impressive career, with over 800 professional appearances, including significant achievements with his national team.

While Cuadrado and Patricio address the needs in wider positions and goalkeeping, Atalanta still has multiple ongoing negotiations regarding their defense. Although the interest in Becao has cooled slightly, the door remains open. The club is also evaluating options in midfield and attack, particularly in light of the increasingly likely departure of Koopmeiners. “We are on the lookout for opportunities that arise,” noted club executive Luca Percassi in an interview with Dazn. As the transfer window approaches its deadline, the situation remains fluid, and Atalanta’s ambitions for the season are still taking shape.
