Feyenoord’s coach, Arne Slot, has officially been named as the new manager for Liverpool. The Reds reached an agreement with the Dutch club for a compensation fee of £9.4m after 45-year-old Slot was chosen to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. Klopp, who had been leading the team since October 2015, bid farewell to Liverpool after their final game against Wolves. Slot is set to take the helm at Liverpool on June 1st, pending a work permit.
Slot led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in 2022-23, along with winning the Dutch Cup and finishing second in the league this season. His attacking style of play, leadership qualities, and talent development skills played a significant role in Liverpool’s decision to appoint him as their new manager. Slot expressed interest in managing in the Premier League back in 2023 when he was linked with Tottenham. Xabi Alonso, the former Liverpool midfielder, was also considered for the position, but he chose to remain with Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool had also reportedly considered Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon as a potential candidate to replace Klopp, who announced his departure in January. However, it was ultimately Slot who stood out as the top choice for Liverpool’s managerial position. With Slot’s proven track record at Feyenoord and his experience in the Eredivisie, Liverpool is hopeful that he will lead the team to further success in the upcoming seasons. Keep an eye out for more updates on this developing story.
