“Brest qualifies for Champions League, stadium issue arises”

Brest will finally make its debut in the first round of the Champions League next season, marking a historic milestone for the club. The team secured a 3-0 victory against Toulouse, while Lille’s 2-2 draw with Nice means they will have to navigate through a third qualifying round and playoff to join Brest in the prestigious competition. However, Brest faces a challenge as their home stadium, Francis-Le Blé, does not meet UEFA standards for Champions League matches due to certain structural restrictions.

Although Brest cannot host their European matches at their home ground, the mayor, François Cuillandre, hinted that the Roudourou stadium in Guingamp may be a suitable alternative. The decision on the venue where Brest will play their historic European games needs to be finalized by May 22nd. Despite considerations for the Roazhon Park in Rennes, Cuillandre emphasized the proximity of Roudourou to Brest, making it a favorable option for the club’s Champions League campaign. However, the situation has reinforced the city’s commitment to constructing a new 15,000-seat stadium, with construction set to commence in 2025 and completion expected by 2027.
