Bayer Leverkusen has had a fantastic season, winning both the club’s first-ever league title and the DFB-Pokal (1-0 against Kaiserslautern). After returning from Berlin, the team celebrated their double victory with a bus ride from Cologne/Bonn airport to Schloss Morsbroich, where they signed the city’s Golden Book. BILD reporter Michael Engelberg was there and spoke live on BILD SPORT at WELT TV. During a chat with Florian Wirtz (21), the young star hinted at his future plans with mysterious comments.
Engelberg asked, “Will you definitely stay in Leverkusen next season?” Wirtz seemed surprised by the question and replied, “I can’t say anything right now. You know my contract.” According to BILD sources, Wirtz, who was named Bundesliga Player of the Season and Europa League’s best young player, intends to stay with Leverkusen next year. With a contract until 2027 and no release clause, Leverkusen is determined to keep the talented midfielder until at least 2025.
Despite interest from top clubs like Real Madrid due to his impressive performances (18 goals, 20 assists in 49 games), it seems unlikely that Wirtz will leave Leverkusen this summer. His father and agent, Hans Wirtz, stated, “Florian has a contract until 2027 in Leverkusen, and he will likely stay there for the foreseeable future. What happens after that, we can’t say. Let’s wait for the next two years to see where his path leads.” Leverkusen fans can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that their rising star is committed to the club for the time being.
